In 2005, Krispy Kreme closed down the stores they believed to be least productive because of financial difficulties. Unfortunately, this included the Concord location.

The Concord Krispy Kreme recently reopened and was greeted by joyful nostalgia by Las Lomas students.

Although it was popular before it close, the reopening has provided for an exciting new sweet treat for an after-school outing.

In hopes of attracting new audiences, the Krispy Kreme Company updated their menu by adding whole wheat and low fat doughnuts. Their new, healthier items have managed to reduce their calorie count to a mere 190 calories.

Many students are now seen carrying dozens of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to school for a friend’s birthday, or for a fun lunchtime event.

Neither of us had been to Krispy Kreme in many years, but we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the aroma of freshly baked doughnuts smelled like warm, sweet sugar. The floors were swept, the windows washed and tables were clean and dry.

Many years ago on our first visit, the place seemed dark, dirty and uninviting. However, since the reopening Krispy Kreme has made sure to maintain its new cleanly atmosphere.

When one walks into Krispy Kreme, they could either be enthralled by the visible doughnut making process, or disgusted by the sight of dough being dipped into vats of oil and coated in sugar.

If one chooses to view the doughnut creation process in a positive light, it can be fascinating to watch as your doughnut is made right before your eyes.

Krispy Kreme is well-known for their original glazed doughnut, which is often served warm. However, they also sell a variety of other delicious doughnuts ranging from sprinkled to jelly-filled. Krispy Kreme sells their doughnuts for a surprisingly low bargain of 99 cents each.

We used to think of doughnuts as impossible to finish, cold, dense cakes, but Krispy Kreme’s original glazed doughnut is a melt-in-your-mouth experience that leaves customers wanting more.

Krispy Kreme has worked hard to become a household name for the best doughnuts in town and rightfully so.
